Tallinn, Estonia -– In Tallinn, the Jewish community of Estonia gathered in the recently-opened Synagogue to attend their yearly General Assembly. This meeting involved a report on the year’s activities, presented by Chairman Boris Oks.

Attendees heard about the Synagogue, which opened just two months ago, with a steady stream of visitors comprising members of the intelligentsia, foreign tourists, and people from other communities in Estonia. Local tour agencies have expressed interest in cooperating with the Jewish community.

The report addressed the Synagogue’s security, which is fully insured and guarded thanks to the ongoing financial support of the Kofkin Family Foundation. Participants heard details about the renovation of the Tallinn Jewish School and the sale of a plot of land owned by the community in Pyarnu, where a Synagogue once stood. Other achievements for this year include the maintenance of the Jewish cemetery in Tallinn and the establishment of a digitalized list of those buried there.

In terms of more recent activities, Chief Rabbi of Estonia Efraim Shmuel Kot has also been leading the preparation of a booklet on the Synagogue and its activities, and the opening of a kosher restaurant, planned for next month. The community also published a beautiful high-quality book entitled “Uus Tallinna Sünagoog” (“New Tallinn Synagogue”), which was handed out to each person at the meeting.
