12th Chabad House Opens in South Broward

Hallandale Beach, Florida — The Jewish Senior Center recently opened in Hallandale Beach, Florida, making it the twelfth Chabad House to open and operate in South Broward County, Florida.

Situated diagonally across the street from Chabad of South Broward Headquarters on Hallandale Bch Blvd, the Jewish Senior Center is run by Chabad Chayil of Highland Lakes. It is a cultural and social service center geared for South Florida’s large senior population.

Director of the Jewish Senior Center is Rabbi Moshe Kievman, assisted by a team of professionals and volunteers. The new center is under the auspices of Chabad of South Broward.

“There’s a huge element of seniors who are not yet engaged in traditional Judaism, yet they will immediately thrive with the Yiddish classes, health seminars, and nutritional programs offered at the Jewish Senior Center,” said Rabbi Raphael Tennenhaus, Chabad’s executive vice-president.

Jewish Senior’s Director Rabbi Moshe Kievman added, “once the seniors are introduced to our non-sectarian programs, we will direct many of them to religious services and classes at Chabad’s main center.”

There are now two Chabad Centers on Hallandale Bch Blvd, with a dozen agencies and organizations based at Chabad of South Broward’s Headquarters, five Chabad centers in Hollywood, as well as Chabad centers in Cooper City, Davie, Pembroke Pines and Weston.

“As we have seen with projects like the Friendship Circle, the up and coming trend is that many new Chabad Houses, especially in high density areas, are often specialty Chabad Houses. In this instance, we have a Chabad House exclusively for senior non-sectarian activities, ” Rabbi Tennenhaus concluded.
