Urals Jewish Community Inaugurates Summer Camp
Yekaterinburg, Russia – Summer camp season has commenced for 150 children from the Urals Region of Russia thanks to the initiative and organization of the Jewish community of Yekaterinburg, a member of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia. Together with their parents and family members, the youngsters gathered in the Jewish Community Center for the opening ceremony of the ‘Gan Israel’ Day Camp, the camp is sponsored by the Ohr Avner Foundation headed by Mr. Lev Leviev.
Their counselors and teachers have prepared an concentrated program for the campers full of interesting lessons, competitions, seminars and training in various fields, including Jewish educational themes, culture, traditions and history. Apart from the educational value of this jamboree, a number of exciting events have been planned for the enthusiasts, such as a visit to the municipal museum, movie theaters, and amusement center and an arcade.
“This comprehensive program will help the kids to relax during their vacation and be inspired in a Jewish atmosphere, as well as acquiring new knowledge,” explained the Chief Rabbi of Yekaterinburg and Sverdlovsk Region, Zelig Ashkenazi. This camp goes beyond providing the children with a kosher diet – the cafe will also offer lessons on Kashrut in a game-like format.
