Chief Rabbi of Astrakhan Meets with Governor
Astrakhan, Russia – Yesterday, an eventful meeting took place between Chief Rabbi of Astrakhan Shlomo Zalman Goldenberg and the region’s Governor, A. Zhilkin. Among the themes discussed were the growth of the local Jewish community and the various programs it operates, and the revival of Jewish life in this southern Russian region.

The conversation also addressed the Jewish community’s participation in the city’s 450-year anniversary, as well as the role of the City Administration in the construction of a Community Center and Mikvah on the Synagogue territory. “The Jewish community is working so that every Jew is comfortable in Astrakhan Region and that their children may receive both a rounded Jewish and Russian education,” underlined Rabbi Goldenberg.
