The event, which involved schoolchildren, their families and other members of the Donetsk Jewish community, was a joyous and interesting occasion for all participants. Like all schools in the Former Soviet Union, the last day of school involved the ringing of the ‘Last Bell’, signifying the end of yet another academic year.

On this day, not only secondary school graduates were recognized but also graduates of elementary school and the 9th grade, who would now be moving on to more serious studies that may enable them to go on to pursue higher education. As well, top students also received awards and certificates for their successful participation in various intellectual and athletic Olympiads, as well as artistic competitions in which students participated throughout the year.

Participants in this highly-spirited event joined together in singing songs, shared the words of Jewish sages, and congratulations messages from proud parents. Upon hearing the sound of the last bell for the 11th year in the life of this school, everyone wished each other all the best in their future studies and endeavours.

The ‘Ohr Menachem’ Day School is part of the Ohr Avner educational network, headed by FJC President Lev Leviev, which operates throughout the Former Soviet Union.
