Goshen, NY — The children of Chabad’s Youth Zone recently celebrated Shavuot, the holiday of the giving of the Torah, through exploring one of the Torah’s fundamental messages: giving to others.

Over thirty children ages 5-12, gathered at Chabad’s Goshen location to create a beautiful floral mural, to be displayed at the Tucker Center for Cancer Care in Middletown’s Orange County Regional Hospital.

“The patients are going to love this!” exclaimed Evelyn Toress of Bloomingburg, age 8, as she sprayed gold glitter over the colorful canvas.

“All these bright colors and sparkling flowers make me want to smile!”

With a fully interactive program, Chabad’s Youth Zone brings the traditions of Judaism to life for both the children involved as well as the greater community.

“The Torah is not a mere history book,” explains Chana Burston, who runs Chabad of Orange County with her husband, Rabbi Pesach Burston.

“It is essential for each child to experience the warmth and joy of the culture and traditions of Judaism first hand.”

Orange County Regional Hospital appreciated the mural, headed with a cheerful “Get Well Soon” banner. The staff sent each child a bagged thank you gift, complete with a ruler, stickers and a letter expressing the smiles of the patients who pass the mural in the hospital corridor.

“This is an incredible project,” said Tori Neville, coordinator of marketing and public relations of Orange County Regional Medical Center.

Chabad of Orange County’s Youth Zone is a project designed to introduce children to the beauty and traditions of the Jewish heritage. Through a variety of games, crafts, and workshops, participants are left with a strong feeling of Jewish pride
