Inter-Religious Conference Held in Russia’s Northern Capital
S Petersburg, Russia — Today in S. Petersburg, the ‘Tavrichesky’ Palace hosted an international inter-parliamentary conference entitled “Intercultural and Inter-Religious Dialogue”, which was attended by a delegation representing the Jewish community and Judaic confession, headed by the city’s Chief Rabbi Menachem Mendel Pewzner and Jewish community Chairman Mark Grubarg.
Participants in this high-profile event included a good number of prominent political, public and religious workers. Among them were Sergei Mironov, the Chairman of Russia’s Federation Council, and Raney van Der Linder, who serves as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly in the Council of Europe.
In his presentation during the conference’s plenary session, Rabbi Pewzner emphasized that it would be incorrect to understand the principle of the division between state from religion to mean that there is a complete absence of interaction between the two spheres.
“The support of the state must also be expressed in terms of legislative support for those, who are dedicated to their religion”, Rabbi Pewzner stated during his speech.

I thought the Rebbe, MH”M was against interreligious dialogue?
Why do other religions have to discuss religious matters with Jews? Don’t they preach: “Love you neighbor as yourself?”
If they practice this, why is there a need for ‘dialogue?’ Everybody will get along just fine.
