Houston, TX — Sunday, May 27th, Jewish history was made in the state of Texas. At 5pm the first Kosher meal was served from the first Kosher Kitchen in the Stringfellow Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Houston, TX — Sunday, May 27th, Jewish history was made in the state of Texas. At 5pm the first Kosher meal was served from the first Kosher Kitchen in the Stringfellow Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

This comes after a year-long of intense negotiations between Rabbi Dovid Goldstien, Chaplain of the TDJC and associate director of Chabad of Houston and the Department of Corrections in Texas.

The kitchen helps solidify the Enhanced Jewish unit which contains a weekly Jewish Learning Institute Torah Studies program and a growing volunteer base of Jewish lay leaders of the Houston Jewish Community.

    The Kosher food is only at this facility. We are currently working on developing a bag meal for the Jewish inmates that were ineligible due to health reasons or security issues.
