Gaithersburg, MD — Excitement was at a high this past Sunday in Bohrer Park, Gaithersburg as over 300 people participated in a Jewish Festival celebrating the holiday of Lag B’Omer. The Jewish Festival was sponsored by Chabad of Upper Montgomery County and Chabad of Germantown in conjunction with several local synagogues and organizations, exemplifying the event’s logo, “Uniting our Local Jewish Community”. The event included many activities and entertainment. For the kids there was a moon-bounce, an inflatable obstacle course, a volleyball game, “Yiddish-Kite” creating and flying, and an entertaining magician. The MisMatch Band of Columbia, MD entertained guests of all ages. A delicious kosher barbecue of hot dogs, hamburgers, corn on the cob, salads and more where provided all afternoon, with the help of the Chabad Men’s Club on the grill.

“The main idea of the event was to draw the Jewish community together in a day of festivity, giving everyone a chance to celebrate together,” said the event organizer Rabbi Chesky Tenenbaum of Chabad. Lag B’Omer is a holiday celebrating the life of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, author of the famous Kabbalist work, the Zohar. His life was one of love and care for fellow Jews. This holiday is traditionally celebrated by taking field trips to parks, and lighting bonfires, which signifies the “light” of the Torah.
