The Lubavitch-Chabad Jewish Student & Community Center held a Torah completion and dedication ceremony Sunday called “One People, One Torah” to mark the completion of the center’s newest Sefer Torah scroll, which was handwritten on parchment by a scribe in accordance with Jewish Law.
A procession of people followed behind the rabbis and members chosen to hold the crown-adorned Torah scrolls belonging to the Lubavitch-Chabad Center as The Klezmer Kats performed the Eastern European dance and folk music that is a staple of weddings and other Jewish celebrations.
Those holding the Torahs stood underneath a chuppah, or marriage canopy, as those gathered formed two circles around them, chained by held hands, as they spun around the canopy while singing Jewish religious songs in a celebration called hakafot.
