Gala Dinner Fetes 24 Years of Chabad in Riverdale
The Tappan Hill Mansion in Tarrytown, New York, was filled on a Saturday evening last month as 250 supporters, friends, and Chabad Early Learning Center parents gathered to celebrate Chabad of Riverdale’s 24th anniversary. Among the distinguished guests were Senator Joe and Hadassah Lieberman.
From The Jewish Link:
In an eloquent speech, spiritual leader Rabbi Levi Shemtov noted that the evening’s celebrations were particularly meaningful since it was taking place during a “Hakhel” year, referring to the biblical commandment of assembling all Jewish men, women and children, as well as “strangers” to assemble and hear the reading of the Torah by the king of Israel once a year. Rebbetzin Sorah Shemtov spoke about how Guests of Honor Jean & Dr. Phil Schneider embody the concept of “Hakhel,” as they reach out, beyond their own circle, to anyone in need.
Guest of Honor Dr. Phil Schneider mentioned that Chabad of Riverdale provides this type of Hakhel environment for all people all of the time. The art of listening, and in so doing engaging the other, is practiced day in, day out, at Chabad of Riverdale. Different people, from all walks of life, step through Chabad’s doors, and they instantaneously feel welcome, accepted, and loved.
Treasured members of the Riverdale community – old and new faces, Early Learning Center and Camp Gan Israel parents, shul and committee members, devoted volunteers, JLI students, Shabbaton participants, Jewish Women’s Circle members – joined together to support Chabad of Riverdale’s remarkable achievements in the community and beyond.
