Memorial for French Terror Victims in Australian Capital

A memorial ceremony was held this afternoon outside the French Cultural Centre, the “Alliance Francaise,” in Australia’s Capital city to pay tribute to those killed and injured in the recent terror attacks in Paris.

Canberra’s Rabbi Shmueli Feldman of the Jewish community officiated at the memorial, organized by members of Canberra’s French community. Rabbi Feldman spoke of the impact the tragedy had on communities around the world and the need for all of humanity to unite against terror and hate, specifically by adding in light, love and good deeds.

Leo Bokhozba, a French student studying in Canberra, tearfully read out all the names and occupations of the victims from name cards placed at the entrance to the centre.

A moment of silence was held and Memorial candles were lit by the Rabbi and representatives of the French community, following which Rabbi Feldman sang the heartfelt traditional Jewish memorial prayer.
