“Honoring Ima” in Orange County Hebrew School
At the Chabad Hebrew School of Orange County, NY, directed by Rabbi Pesach and Chana Burston, mothers and students beaded, giggled, squeezed and celebrated on Mother’s Day.
Chabad Hebrew School hosted a unique program in honor of Mother’s Day called “Honoring Ima.” Students and mothers enjoyed a variety of creative activity booths. Beautiful “Ima” key-chains and necklaces were beaded and designed, and mothers and students wrote and decorated “Love-a-Grams” – special notes – to one another which were then “mailed” and delivered with a candy during the event. Another highlight activity was the “Ima Lemonade Exchange.” Mothers and children made freshly squeezed lemonade for one another, decorated with fresh floating fruit and mini umbrella toothpicks.
“Mother’s Day is an opportune time to teach children the Jewish values of honoring one’s parents – which is the fifth of the Ten Commandments,” explains Chana Burston.
“Overall, the goal was for students to reflect and appreciate how much their mother does for them and spend quality time together,” added Rabbi Pesach Burston.
