Lubavitch of Scotland Honors National Poet

About 40 people attended Lubavitch of Scotland’s 7th annual Burns Supper, honoring Scottish national poet Robert Burns on his 255th birthday, at the L’Chaim Restaurant this past Sunday evening.

The event was organized by Sora Jacobs, co-director of Lubavitch of Scotland and manager of the L’Chaim Restaurant. The meal served was traditional 18th century Scottish cuisine.

Chairman of the evening was Steven Kayne, who entertained the guests with his wit and humor and retold the history of Robert Burns.

David Clapham and Sorelle Kayne kept the assembled amused throughout the evening with their enthusiastic recitations of Burn’s poems.

During the course of the evening, Rabbi Chaim Jacobs spoke about the 26th Yahrtzeit of Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka, wife of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. He also spoke about the special relationship between the Lubavitcher Rebbe and Ariel Sharon, and how the Rebbe advised him to build and use pontoon bridges to cross the Suez Canal in the 1973 Yom Kippur War.

A special thank you to all the guests present was given by Sora Jacobs. She said that despite the challenges Lubavitch of Scotland faces, it is the friends and guests who attend these events that encourage them to keep organizing more and more events.
