Center City has a New Holiday Tradition

Philadelphia, PA — They lined up early along the Ben Franklin Parkway. Each car was fitted with their own menorah in honor of Philadelphia’s first annual Hanukkah Parade.
Parade Watcher Dov Leis remarked “it’s fantastic, it’s fantastic.”
Saturday is the second day of Hanukkah, a Jewish holiday which celebrates the miracle of oil.

Rabbi Yochonon Goldman explains the tradition.
“There was a tiny flask of oil found in temple only supposed to last one day. Miraculously it lasted eight days and what has come to symbolize is good over evil. Freedom over oppression.”
Jewish leaders in the area thought a parade through Center City would be a great way to bring the joy of Hanukah to the community.
The parade ended up at 6th and Market, where a menorah stands throughout the holiday season.
Hanukkah celebrations continue Tuesday evening in Rittenhouse Square. There will be a community menorah lighting there. Also, kids will be invited to spin the dreidel.
