Ancient Olive Oil Press Comes to Modern Supermarket
On Sunday, at a very crowded Wegman’s supermarket in DeWitt, NY, Rabbi Yaakov Rapoport, director of Syracuse Chabad, conducted a demonstration on the pressing of olive oil, with local Jewish children happily joining in for the hands-on workshop.
After the olives were squeezed in a press, the rabbi collected the fluids and placed them in a centrifuge to separate the olive oil.
After the demonstration, Rabbi Rapoport explained the significance of olive oil in the celebration of Chanukah.
