Tzeirei Hashluchim to Visit IDF Bases All Chanukah

Over the 8 days of Chanukah, Yeshiva students from Tzeirei Hashluchim of Tzfas will be visiting over 40 army bases in northern Israel, on the Lebanese and Syrian borders, bringing the light and joy of Chanukkah to the soldiers who are protecting our holy land on the front lines.

On the first evening they visited 6 bases and brought joy to over 800 soldiers. The soldiers’ response was heartwarming. “This is truly awesome, no one ever comes so far out to visit us and celebrate Chanukkah” said one soldier from Motzav Tzipren, a base that borders with Lebanon. “Please be sure to come back later this week,” he added. Yoav another soldier commented, “We are so fortunate to have the students share the spirit and light of this special festival with us. While we protect the country physically, the Yeshiva students do so spiritually. Their thoughts are with us and our thoughts are with them.”

The soldiers listened as boys offered words of inspiration about Chanukkah and its relevance to our daily lives, lit the Menorah, enjoyed the legendary jelly doughnuts, and then immediately broke into a lively dance together with the Yeshiva Bochrim.

As was done in the past 10 years, Chabad houses from around the world and their communities partnered with the Yeshiva by sponsoring one of the vehicles on mission to this special goal.

Special banners reading “Chabad of …….. Wishes the IDF a happy Chanukkah” were printed. The soldiers posed for pictures with these signs expressing appreciation for this global support. Photographs of these special moments will be sent to the Chabad Shluchim who participated in this endeavor.

“We want to share this special Mivtza with the communities around the globe that contributed money, thus making this program possible,” said Shmuel, from Yeshivas Tzierei Hashluchum. “This allows them to strengthen their connection to our brethren in Israel in a manner connected with Torah and Mitzvos, and specifically a campaign which was near and dear to the Lubavitcher Rebbe.”

While we protect the country physically, the Yeshiva students do so spiritually

If only their commanders would also realize and accept this truth. As the Rebbe said, in terms of protection the yeshivah bochurim do more than the soldiers; the real protection comes from the Torah that they learn, and the soldiers are merely the physical means by which Hashem implements it.

(Nevertheless, although the soldiers’ contribution to the nation’s security is inferior to that of the learners, the Rebbe said that the learners should look up to them because they are superior in a different aspect, that of mesirus nefesh. They fulfill this mitzvah literally, while the learners’ mesirus nefesh is only figurative, and pales in comparison.)
