World’s Largest Dreidel Gets Spruced Up
My Central Jersey
The large dreidel on the front lawn of the Chabad Jewish Center on Valley Road in the Basking Ridge section has been touched up just in time for Hanukkah.
A group of students at the Olam Academy — the center’s private day school, serving residents of Somerset, Hunterdon, Morris and Union counties — recently refurbished the display with coats of bright red and yellow paint, Rabbi Yitzchok Moully said, inviting the public to come take a look. Hanukkah, the eight-day Jewish holiday observed each year, will last from Dec. 20 through Dec. 28 this year.
A dreidel is a four-sided spinning top traditionally played with during Hanukkah. Each face of the top bears a symbol of the Hebrew alphabet.
