Fairhaven menorah display planned
The xmas tree on Railroad Avenue won’t be the only large holiday display in a public square this year.
Chabad of Bellingham will host a public menorah lighting ceremony at Fairhaven Village Green Dec. 20, the middle of Hanukkah, the eight-day Jewish Festival of Lights.
Mayor Tim Douglas is scheduled to speak, and several people will be asked to light the branches of the large candelabra, said Rabbi Levi Backman.
Public menorahs are popular in other communities, Backman said, but this may be the first one in Whatcom County.
Chabad of Bellingham, part of an international outreach organization devoted to helping Jewish people learn more about their heritage, will also have a display about Hanukkah at a kiosk at Bellis Fair mall during the holiday, Dec. 15-23.
