Rabbi Anchelle Perl’s Magical Mystery Bus Tour

The unique “Travel the World of Kindness in one Day” began at 8:30am from Chabad in Mineola; the first stop was a local Soup Kitchen where quality time was spent helping serve food to the homeless and the hungry.

Innovated by Rabbi Anchelle Perl, the Chabad Director of Mineola, this day-long dubbed ‘Magical Mystery Bus Tour’ was dedicated to acts of kindness to the hungry, the homeless and the incarcerated.

Leaving the Soup Kitchen at 11am the group of enthusiastic volunteers travelled to the Nassau County Correctional Center in East Meadow , where the Sheriff Michael Sposato held a VIP special briefing and tour of the facilities.

The day ended with an elegant Luncheon Cocktail Party at a private home overlooking the Long Island Sound.

Government leaders joined this Chabad Day of Kindness at different points along the route; they included NY Assemblyman Charles Lavine and Nassau County Comptroller George Merigos.

Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice addressing the Kickoff Ceremony noted that “Chabad is to be commended in this endeavor, designed to help bridge the gulf between the ‘have’s’ and the ‘have not’s’. Rabbi Perl always reminds us we cannot afford the luxury of staying home but proactively we go out of our way to help the less unfortunate during these trying economic times.”

‘This uplifting experience” noted volunteer Louise Bobrow “reminded us to continue these good deeds every day in reaching out to others who have fallen between the cracks”.

“Your catchy phrase ‘The Magical Mystery Bus Tour’ came to life,” explained Carleen Calmenson, “It was indeed magical and opened doors to worlds that were a mystery to me until today”.

For those unable to attend, the rabbi carried a Spot satellite GPS Messenger connection, providing an online live route tracker [in real time] on computer complete with Twitter updates, keeping thousands informed on the days exciting progress!

The day ended at 4pm with everyone going home with sweet scented good-by tote bags filled with goodies & resolutions to add to expand all our efforts to help our fellow mankind.
