Albany Day School Publishes Scholarly Torah Journal
The Maimonides Day School published a new scholarly journal featuring dissertations in Hebrew and English by students, parents, alumnae and staff of the Albany, N.Y., institution.
Edited by Rabbi Israel Rubin, director of Chabad-Lubavitch of the Capitol Region and Maimonides’ dean, El-Bnay: Albany Torah Periodical includes articles on the intricacies of Jewish laws governing cooking on a holiday in preparation for a following Sabbath, a Talmudic teaching on the proper way for two friends to depart from each other, and the lessons that can be gleaned from the late Steve Jobs’ famous 2005 commencement address at Stanford University.
The school published the journal in time for its upcoming Kinus Torah, a scholarly gathering traditionally celebrated by Jewish communities following the holiday of Sukkot. The Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory, reestablished the custom in the United States following his arrival to the country in 1941.
The booklet was dedicated in memory of Esther Cohen, a Maimonides school alumnus and Chabad-Lubavitch emissary in Manchester, England.
