Friendship Circle Cheers the Elderly
MANCHESTER, England [CHI] — Friendship Circle volunteer buddies and the residents of Langdon College and Community brightened up the days of the residents of Parklands, Newlands and Heathlands old age homes last week when they delivered their home made Rosh Hashannah gift bags.
The volunteers and their buddies had great fun making up the gift packs and felt amazing that when they were able to bring such joy to the residents.
In her own words, Hannah Mandel, one of the participants said, “I’m really really happy we went with The Friendship Circle to Heathlands to give Rosh Hashannah gifts to the old people. When I gave one to an old person she thanked me and gave me a hug and kiss on cheek. Wooow do i feel sooo flattered right now!”
The Friendship Circle aims to improve the social lives of people with special needs in the Manchester Jewish Community through organized social programs and a volunteer based buddying scheme. Activities include craft and activity sessions, cookery programs , days and nights out, Yom Tov parties and Shabbat meals.
Over the next few weeks as well as their 4-5 weekly programs they have a Blackpool trip with the Landon residents planned as well as their annual Sukkot party which this year has an exciting African theme.
