Hundreds Turn Out for Hunterdon Chabads 4th Auction

The Old Stangl pottery factory on Mine Street in Flemington, NJ provided an industrial-chic setting for Chabad of Hunterdon County’s fourth annual Auction Evening this past Sunday, March 3rd.

200 hundred people attended the auction evening which raised money for the Mathew Harms Medical Funs and for Chabad of Hunterdon Scholarship Fund. The entertainment was provided by a comedian named Sarge. The food was provided by Fumio.

“I had a wonderful time,” said Pittstown resident Ruby Gelok. “It was put together very well. The prizes are wonderful and the people are really excited to be here. It is a successful event and I really liked the thought behind what they are doing.”

Matthew Harms was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in 2012.

Although his cancer was detected early and is considered to be in remission, Matthew still faces a difficult road.

ALL has a tendency to work its way through the spine and into the brain, and the maintenance phase of Matthew’s treatment will last until 2015.

Matthew and his family have been active in Chabad of Hunterdon County for five years and his sisters, Lea and Karly, attend Chabad’s Hebrew school in Clinton.

“I’m passionate about helping local families that are going through difficult times,” Rabbi Eli Kornfeld said. “I want to help rally around people that are going through medical, economic or spiritual difficulties. Tonight is just one example of that. This will help the Harms family navigate through difficult times.”

Kornfeld said the event was a success because people in the community were able to put aside differences and work toward a common goal.

“Things are going unbelievably well,” Jody Reich one of the auction committee members remarked. “The community has come out in droves to support this cause. People from all walks of life are here tonight because they recognize the common good tonight’s event represents.”

All told, fifty three prize winners were announced as well as the Split the Pot winner.
