Celtic Soccer Star Pops in for Morning Prayers

Lubavitch Scotland was definitely on the ball yesterday morning. For Glasgow Celtic’s Israeli footballer Rami Gershon popped in to the city’s Shul in the Park for morning prayers following an invitation from Rabbi Mendel Jacobs.

The 24-year-old defender, who is on-loan at Celtic until the end of the season from Belgians Standard Liege, told the Sportsworld: “I am very close to my religion. I put on tefillin every day and try to go to the synagogue every Friday night. I do as much as I can.”

Rami, who has been capped 10 times for his country, said he was happy to be invited to take part in the shacharit service. “I would like to go back and take part in more services,” he said.

And he will get the chance to mix with Lubavitch Scotland again, as he has been invited to the organisation’s Purim dinner and concert, which will take place at the end of the month.

Rishon LeZion-born Rami began his career with hometown side Hapoel Rishon LeZion in 2008.

He was signed by Standard in 2008, and, as well as Celtic, was also loaned out to Belgian team Kortrijk.
