65 Campuses and Over 500 Students!

Chabad on Campus, the network connecting many students and Shluchim get together annually for a special Shabbaton spent here in Crown Heights. Students began arriving Friday Erev Shabbos where they were placed at houses of those who volunteered board for over 500 students that attended this year.

The program included tours of Manhattan, the Rebbes Library, The Rebbes Room, 770, The Jewish Childres Meuseum, Crown Heights and the Ohel. Throughout Shabbos the Tefilos and meals were spent together in Oholei Torah packed with Farbrengen’s. Motzoai Shabbos was the Melava Malka followed by musical performances by NIZ and Ta Shema, new Jewish/Chassidic hip-hop groups, and a surprise visitor, Matisyahu who performed a few songs.

The next day, Sunday, all the students packed into buses and went to the Ohel, which was describes as ‘spiritually moving and uplifting’ and ‘the perfect conclusion to such a wonderful Shabbos’.

    The shabbaton was great – I met some of the students over Shabbos and it was clear they were having a great time while being exposed to many positive aspects of Chabad and Crown Heights. Yasher koach, organizers.

    Thank you to all the residents of Crown Heights who hosted students for the Chabad on Campus Shabbaton. It really was an awesome and inspiring weekend for all who attended.

    whoever was in charge of this event, i hope such an even never happens again. i had 8 college students by me, and they were really unimpressed. they came to hear inspiring words, and instead there was a talk about kosher food… most of the students coming hear know all a/b kosher food, since they are close to chabad! one speaker on shabbos was not heard at all, and so 1 of the college students that stayed in my house, who was sitting 10 feet from him, scrame at him that she couldnt hear him. so he got off stage. and that was that….there was no orginization at all, this girl, a leader in all ways, has orginized so many events for college students, shabbos 1000, where more than 500 students were gathered, and there was much more orginization, better speakers(frum)she told me that at the beg. of one of the speakers, it was very intresting, but a few min. into the speech he started talking a/b how his ansestors died in the holocaust. who is intrested in that? i could go on and on, a/b all the complaints… she said there was no meaning at all!! no message on the pamphlet, the students who come in wantto hear a message, they are not interested in hip hop, they have concerts all the time, the students staying at my house didnt even attend the motzei shabbos and sunday schedule, b/c they were so turned off….we learnt the parsh with this girl and she told us after, lech lecha is such a beautiful concept-according to chassidus, why couldnt that be the theme, or s/t a/b Moshiach? that is an intersting topic, or stories a/b the gr8ness of chabad? i could seriously go on and on with her complaints, and this project needs serious shaping up to do. DONT BE AFRAID TO TALK ABOUT FRUM INTERSTING CONCEPTS, THESE NOT FRUM PP. ARE MORE OPEN AND RECEPTIVE IN HEARING MANY TOPICS THAT MANY SHLUCHIM ARE AFRAID TO TALK ABOUT!they want to hear intersting yiddishe topics, and not the diff. btw. greeks and kosher foods, like come on!!! you are allowed to talk a/b MOSHIACH, THE REBBE TELLS US IN HIS SICHOS COUNTLESS TIMES THAT WE MUST SPREAD THE WORD THAT MOSHIACH IS COMING, there are so manyk interesting things to say about that for a start….
