SA Jewish Community Celebrates New Torah Scroll

San Antonio’s Jewish community on Sunday celebrated the arrival of a new, Torah scroll.

The Chabad Lubavitch Synagogue, located on Blanco Road, welcomed its third Torah, which took a year to write by hand. It contains Moses’ five books, and contains the teachings and guidance for Jews used every week.

“The Torah represents the unity of our people because everyone has an equal share in our Torah and our heritage,” said Rabbi Chaim Block. “When we write a Torah it’s an opportunity for the entire community to come together.”

The $32,000 Torah was funded by donations. It will sit in a sacred cabinet in the synagogue.
