As basketball fans gathered at Miami’s American Airlines Arena ahead of Game 2 of the NBA Finals, a synagogue-on-wheels arrived to cheer own the home team.
A project of two local Chabad-Lubavitch centers – The Shul of Downtown and Chabad House in Miami Beach – the aptly-named Chabad of the NBA Finals consisted of a specially-outfitted recreational vehicle. Decked out in Miami Heat paraphernalia, the special “Mitzvah Tank” beckoned fans with the opportunity to learn some Torah and don the Jewish prayer boxes known as tefillin.
One fan remarked that he visited the travelling Chabad House five years ago when the Heat last won the Finals and was happy to do it once again.
After Thursday night’s game in Miami, the series against the Dallas Mavericks headed to Texas. Should Game 6 be necessary, the RV will return on June 12.
