Chief Sephardic Rabbi of Israel Visits Cheder in LA

This Thursday 4 Cheshvan – October 26, the Rishon Letzion, the Sephardic Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Shlomo Amar, visited the Chabad boys school “Cheder Menachem” in Los Angeles. At the Cheder, he was met by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Greenbaum principal of the school and met with the staff & students. Rabbi Greenbaum escorted the Rabbi and translated as Rabbi Amar tested the eighth grade students of Cheder Menachem in Gemara and discussed words of Torah with them. Rabbi Amar also met with the students of 5th thru -8th grade in the synagogue.

Rabbi Amar encouraged the students of the Cheder to continue their study of the Torah with enthusiasm and diligence. He told the children that since they are privileged to study in an institution which is named for the Rebbe, they must follow the Rebbe’s directive to learn Torah with added effort and to spread the wellsprings of Chassidus outward.

The students and staff of the Cheder recited Chapter 130 of the book of Psalms together with Rabbi Amar, in the merit of the Jews of the Holy Land of Israel and all Jews everywhere. Student Menachem Mendel Korf was given the honor of leading the recitation of the Psalms.

Menachem Mendel Korf is the grandson of Rabbi Yehuda Leib Raskin, OBM, who was the Rebbe’s emissary in Morocco and was close to Rabbi Amar in Morocco in his youth. Rabbi Amar was visibly moved by the meeting with the grandson of his childhood Rabbi and blessed the child.

The Chief Rabbi and his entourage were very impressed with the school and the students. This was truly a great kiddush Hashem for the Jewish community of Los Angeles.

    omg he also came tyo my school!!! go Bais Chana!!! it was so cool but it was to bad cuz nobldy could understand enything he said.. (it was all im hebrew) but it was really niceto haver a huge rabbi in our school. hope he comes and visits us again.
