Highland Mills, NY Chabad Hebrew School recently hosted a program in honor of Mother’s Day.

Students decorated fresh roses, which they decorated with ribbons, and presented it to their moms, along with a Mother’s Day Poem. Afterward, students served their mothers herbal tea with biscuits, and each mother sat with her child for “Mother’s Day learning.”

“Overall, the goal was for students to reflect and appreciate how much their mother does for them and spend quality time together,” said Rabbi Pesach Burston.

Afterward, mothers and students enjoyed an exciting “Mother/Child” game, and ended the program decorating cookies together.

“Chabad Hebrew School provided me with the loveliest of Mothers’ Day presents this year,” said Jodi Hershkowitz, of Highland Mills, whose son Max, six, attends the First Taste Program at Chabad Hebrew School. “The program gave my son the opportunity to not only share some special activities with me, but to also look into the deeper meaning of what it means to appreciate and honor one’s mother. In a time when emphasis on Mothers’ Day seems to be driven by the commercialism of greeting card companies, it was heartwarming for Max and me to sit down to a cup of tea, play a game, and decorate a cookie together all the while exploring the mitzvot of the mother/child relationship according to the Jewish faith.”
