Hummer Parade! – Sukkah Hopping in Style!
Boca Raton, FL – Chol Hamoed Sukkos, four stretched hummers pulled out of the Chabad of Boca Raton’s parking lot with over 75 excited children ready to go sukkah hopping all over the town in style. A special sukkah scavenger hunt was arranged for the children by the youth director, Rabbi Shmuly Gutnick and Tami Cohen. The children followed the clues that lead them to many exciting activities.
More pictures in the Extended Article!
One of the clues led them to a shopping center where they had a contest to see who could shake lulav with the most people. The children scattered out. A large group of kids came rushing into one restaurant, everyone turned to see what the commotion was all about. The children shouted anyone jewish? Silence prevailed. Then one couple sitting in the corner shouted back, we are! The children rushed toward them, eager to shake lulav with them. Within minutes the whole restaurant was shaking lulav. One lady said that she hadn’t shook lulav in over 50 years, and she was very touched to see so many children excited to do this mitzvah. The children shook lulav with over 100 people. After hours of fun, the procession of hummers returned to the chabad house for a fantastic pizza party
A special thanks to, Rabbi Moshe Denburg, Rabbi Zalman Bukiet, Rabbi Ruvi New, Rabbi Boruch Shmuel Liberow, Tami Cohen Rabbi Shmuly Gutnick and all the bochurim.

hmmm...
what do hummers have to do with suckos? You should have done this for Chanukah and had pick-up trucks for Succos.. doesn’t make sense!
Shluchoi Shel Adam Kemoisoi
If they used pickup trucks then it would not generate as much PR – which is the primary motif for many these days. Using Hummers makes as much sense as the fact that they used non-Lubavitch lulavim (if you look carefully at the picture). Still, it’s the end result that counts right? Or is ‘the end hallows the means’ a pagan concept. me thinks!

Shmuly, great to hear from you. keep up the amazing work! and the spirit!

Sometimes, a little FANCY GASHMIYUS helps to "start the process" of bringing others closer!
Don’t be sooooo judgemental!

Hmmm
But there are no signs on the Hummers.. There is no purpose – other than getting attention.. they could have gotton the same attention with a large flatbed truck.. like the floats on Lag BaOmer and put a really large succah on it.. or something like that..
But hey, if the Hummers gave the bochurim more excitement to do the Rebbe’s work.. fine..
yudi
that is a very big kidush hasham
shluchai adoynainu
shluchoi shel adma kemoisoi if you really look carefully at the pictures the non lubavitch lu lov is in only one picture is there a chance to be dan lkav that its the ladys and not chabads
lets try to let the shluchim do thei holy work without Criticizing everything they do
hummes
those hummes r so cool i have never seen one like that!!
Computer Laptop
G. How do you write an article like this without a laptop?
Worried resident
Hey all those out there criticizing the use of hummers should be aware that most of the kids involved in the project running around doing mivtza lulov with these hummers were not from religious homes so if the hummers attract them ,so what!
Did any of the critics do mivtzoim this year?
Floridian
WOW!!! Never knew we had such style so close by!!!
Impressed!!! Keep up the good work!!
And all you people, don’t be jelous because there is nothing wrong with hummers if it held all the kids and they were excited!! Try it yourself sometime!

Shmuli;
Your doing an awsome job out there. Your crazy methhods are actualy working.
keep up the great work and send regards to your wife.
Very Dissapointed
Dear Webby
It’s your web site, and by the way, you and everyone else who helps you does an amazing job.
As such you have the right to run or cut anything you want; most similar sights wouldn’t even afford the chance for comments.
All that being said I am dissapointed that you would not run my negative comments about the use of Hummers for this otherwise applaudable mitzvah.
I won’t bother going over my points again; if you wouldn’t publish it before…
I disagree with people who said " if that’s what it takes to get them to shake the luluv.." I think it re- enforces a bad stereotype if nothing else. They should be taught that to obey G-d’s commandments, and to be a good Jew is it’s own reward.
I can only imagine how else that money could have been spent on those same children that went for the Hummer rental.
For a child to have an adult spend some time engaging them in a positive aspect of there identity, plus pizza!, just that goes a long way.
Maybe next year Hybrids! B’H
Innovative Mivtzaim
What is wrong with using a "non Lubavitche" Lulav? I didn’t see anywhere that the Rebbe said that you have to davka use a lubavitche Lulav. If the Lulav is kosher, then they were mezakeh many yidden to bentch lulav and esrog just as the Rebbe wants.
As far as the Hummers is concerned… What is your problem??? There is no halachik violation here, and it probably got major press coverage thereby giving much attention to the mitzvos of Sukkos and the Rebbe’s mivtzaim. As a Shliach, I am always looking for innovative ways to atract yidden to Yiddishkeit, provided that it doesn’t compromize halacha or the Rebbe’s directives in any way. While the Hummer thing my not necessarily be the most constructive thing for a Crown Heights kid to do, it certainly is great for kids who would otherwise be wasting their time.
someone that was there
just that day with one of the hummers did they yous that lulav… but the main thing is mivtzoim which we did alot
JIM
Next time they might want to open the sun roofs on the hummers lay down schah and make them into genuine sukkos. That will really guaranty maximum p.r.
someone
dear hmmmm..
you try making 80 non frum kids do mivtzaim on sukkos

Looking Fwd. to seeing A classy original Menorah Parade with over 100 happy children.
to: hmmmmm
How about one with pick up trucks.
to:Shluchoi Shel Adam Kemoisoi
how about get the children to light menorah with people in a pop up sukka window, not doorway.
any way have a frelichin purim
gr8 work!!
Wow!
What a neat idea to display the mitzvah of sukkos in a fun way!!
Keep up the great work!!
PS. Why are there always ppl looking at the neg of a situation. Why are we always pin-pointing the bad and not focusing on the good.
Instead of puting ppl down for the goodness they are doing, put your money where your mouth is, do it yourself or help them out, in an encouraging way.
I’m pretty dissapointed in the lack of Ahava Yisroel to one another, and we wonder why Moshiach hasn’t come yet =( !!
ISchier
Interesting, different and effective! Yasher koiach!
As for the Hummers, pls keep in mind this is a very upscale part of Florida and people are jaded – it takes a lot to capture their attention.
