New Sefer Torah Dedicated in Melbourne
A new Sefer Torah was dedicated to the Chabad House of Caulfield “770” this past Sunday in memory of Mrs. Tova Herszberg OBM. The Torah was donated by her son and daughter-in law, Dovid and Devorah Rochel Herszberg and family of Melbourne, Australia.
The Sefer Torah was beautifully written by an expert sofer in Israel to coincide with the 3rd Yahrtzeit of Mrs Tova Herszberg. Mrs. Herszberg was a modest, kind and beloved woman who made all those she came in contact with feel special.
The traditional parade began from the Herszberg’s home and made its way to the Chabad House of Caulfield – “770”. A large group of people from all facets of the Melbourne Jewish community accompanied the Torah in a heartwarming display of joy and unity.
The weather held out as the singing and dancing filled the streets, and everybody felt uplifted from the experience.
After being greeted by the other Sifrei Torah, the crowd made it’s way into the shul where Rabbi Yossel Gutnick welcomed everyone and led the hakafos.
A seudah followed on Sunday evening at the Herszberg home. Speakers included Dovid Herszberg, his father-in-law Rabbi Sender Munitz, Rabbi Yossel Gutnick and Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Groner.
Rabbi Groner eloquently darshened on the words “Taamu Ureu Ki Tov Hashem”, that “Tov Hashem” spells “Tova” and through Torah we taste the greatness of Hashem. He went on to explain how appropriate it is that a sefer Torah was therefore written in memory of Mrs. “Tova” Herszberg.
