National Teen Shabbaton Launches in Manhattan

250 excited teens from 44 cities gathered today in lower Manhattan as the annual National Cteen Shabbaton got underway.

Each participant received a VIP pass at registration and breakfast at Chabad of Wall Street, which was followed by tours to the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero and other sights. Cteen’s signature Shabbaton sweatshirts and proud teen spirit were on display for all to see.

Speaking from Cteen Central in Merkos Suite 302 (Chabad House HQ) where reservations continue to pour in for the Motzei Shabbos Jewish Teen Yacht Event, Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, Chairman of Cteen International, expressed his excitement. “This will be an incredible Shabbos; one they will long remember.”

    Growing up in Lubavitch I always heard that NCSY was not kosher because they had boys and girl programs together. What changed???? Is this the new Lubavitch after Gimmel Tammuz???

    Congrats Cteens ie chabad you finally succeded in creating an almost direct copy of NCSY. and to the alter chosid yes it may be coed programs NCSY but that is because it keeps teens in their confort zone. NCSY to date is the most succesful organization in terms of bringing teens from all backround closer to yidishkeit. I personally know many many teen who have come much closer to Judaism and yidishket because if NCSY’s aproach. I see we now realize to learn from our fellow jews the modern otherdox that they have Kiruv spot on in one area

    I hear what you say BUT I dont think the Rebbe agreed with lowering the standard of the Torah to bring people closer to the Torah. Its not a numbers game and making the best programs its doing what the Torah says is right.

    Was not saying to lower standards simply that the modern orthodox have some very valuable things to show chabad. Besides for coed ther are other party of the ncsy approach tht do not conflict if anything they go along with chabad philosophy. One key thing they have is something called ebbing. As shabbos is coming to a close after mincha seduah slishit before maariv they gather everyone in one room make everybody be silent and they sing jewish songs. It is a very inspirational event. And chabad could really improve their cteens organization by looking to others with more experience
