Tu Bishvat at Moscow’s Shaarei Tsedek Center

MOSCOW [FJC] — The Shaarei Tsedek Charity Center in Moscow’s Marina Roscha neighborhood hosted a celebration for the holiday Tu Bishvat. Opening the ceremony, Rabbi Alexander Lakshin told the audience about the meaning and significance of this holiday in Jewish tradition.

The participants, most of whom are beneficiaries of the Center’s charitable outreach, admired the exhibit of umbrellas that were hung from the Center’s high ceiling.

Two of the women who contributed their umbrellas to the exhibit, Clavdiya Yevtushenko and Rita Koval, read short prose that they had composed about umbrellas.

The cultural program continued with a performance by the Chaverim Vocal Ensemble and the Vovalla Duet.

This was followed by numerous songs in Russian, Hebrew and Yiddish, bringing a wave of positive responses from the audience. This lively reaction did not go unnoticed by the head of the Shaarei Tsedek Center, Leah Ratner, who said that the Vovalla Duet should become frequent guest performers at the Center.
