Online School Supporters Create Tuition Fund
Sending your kids to your local cheder or girls school is great—if you have a local cheder or girls school, that is.
But what if you’re on shlichus, and the only thing remotely resembling a cheder or girls school is your own Chabad center or home?
That was the dilemma facing Shluchim for decades.
All that changed forever with The Shluchim Office’s creation of the Shluchim Online School—a marvel of high technology that tore down the barriers of geography to create the world’s first-ever fully online national and international Jewish school of any sort. The Boys Division has been sponsored by Lilian & Meyer Nigri of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
But just like your local cheder or girls school costs, the Shluchim Online School costs.
And though its tuition is already low, in keeping with its overarching mission of helping shluchim however possible, even that low rate is too much for many shluchim.
Enter Ben Federman, Motti Korf and Uri Laber—three leading Shluchim Office supporters who put their heads together over the most recent International Shluchim Conference to create a scholarship fund for shluchim struggling to pay Shluchim Online School tuition.
The fund, which is applied to via scholarship forms, will allocate scholarships to shluchim most in need. Because shluchim to the Former Soviet Union already enjoy a scholarship fund thanks to a partnership between Ohr Avner and The Shluchim Office, this is not intended for them.
A committee of shluchim and supporters, all well-versed via personal life experience in tuition scholarships will review all applications. Said committee currently includes Rabbi Ovadia Goldman of Oklahoma City, Mr. Shmuel Gniwisch of Montreal, Rabbi Bentzion Korf of Miami Beach, Rabbi Yossi Schildkraut of Brazil and Rabbi Yitzchok Wolf of Chicago.
The Shluchim Online School is led by Director Rabbi Moshe Shemtov, Americas (English) division principal Mrs. Gitty Rosenfeld and Europe/Asia (Hebrew) division principal Mrs. Chavie Kastel.
To apply, e-mail the committee at scholarshipfund@shluchim.org. For further inquiries, contact Rabbi Moshe Shemtov at mshemtov@shluchim.org.
Grateful bubby
On behalf of my eineklach in remote parts of the world with no other schools except the online school….THANK YOU!!! This will really help my children who struggle to live but who are dedicated to their Shlichus.
CH Shluchim
It’s great that Sluchim are being helped.
Every Chabad chosid is a Shliach, certainly those in CH
who open their homes on a moment’s notice, do the Rebbe’s mivtzoim and and who constantly give to every chabad mossad.
Who is helping, those who need it here, with tuition etc?
Mendy Hecht
As the guy who wrote this article and as someone who worked for The Shluchim Office for a long time and still works with them, I say to #1 and #6 that there are two sides to every story.
Saying that The Shluchim Office, whose purpose is to help shluchim and which I’ve seen bend over backwards endless times to help shluchim, hurts the children of shluchim is misleading and wrong.
And to #6: You talk about being straightforward and up front–so how about using your name?
A Principal
As a Principal in a school that gets on line students after they are done with it or after the parents send them to real schools oot, I can tell you that the on line school is a life saver. Paying 4-500 a month is better than $13,000 a year in an out of town school.
Gedalya, Moshe and the staff of the SO deserves support.
Menachem
The good news is..is that this is the only moisad that has a vadd decide who should get the money.
GRATEFUL TO SPONSORS
