Feds Fund Chabad House’s Substance Abuse Programs

The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy awarded $625,000 grants to two Chabad-Lubavitch run grassroots initiatives to prevent and reduce youth substance abuse.

In announcing the total package of $22 million in Drug Free Communities Support Program grants to Chabad of Camarillo and Chabad of S. Fernando Valley and 167 other organizations across the country, national “Drug Czar” Gil Kerlikowske hailed the program as crucial towards protecting youth.

“Data show that communities receiving DFC funding have seen significant reductions in past 30-day use of alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana among middle and high school students,” said Kerlikowske. “I applaud the hard work of local community leaders, youth, parents, educators, healthcare professionals, faith-based leaders, law enforcement officials, and others who are working together daily to strengthen communities and save kids’ lives.”

Rabbi Aryeh Lang, director of Chabad of Camarillo and its Saving Lives Camarillo coalition of local law enforcement, educators and civic organizations, said that the five-year grant would help expand programs and fund a full-time coordinator.

Collaborative efforts, he told the Camarillo Acorn, would “reduce injuries and deaths in the community caused by underage drinking and drug use.”

Chabad of S. Fernando Valley’s similarly named Saving Lives S. Fernando Valley also won a five-year grant.

Each program uses methodologies employed by Chabad-Lubavitch of the West Coast’s drug rehabilitation center in Los Angeles.

This is such a good cause why can’t they find private donors who will give money voluntarily? Why do have to take money by force from the taxpayers and increase the debt on the next generation? It’s not such a hard concept to understand: the government has no more money. It doesn’t have a little money and it doesn’t have some money, it has no money, zero. 100 cents of every dollar it spends is borrowed, and will have to be repaid by our children with interest. Do we really want to leave it to our children to clean up after our recklessness? Let’s do the responsible thing and demand the government stops spending NOW.

If you had anyone in your family or friends that was suffering from the deadly disease of alcoholism and/or substance abuse, believe me, you wouldn’t care where the funding came from, as long as they got help.

This is an amazing story! Kol Ha’Cvod!
