Chabad of Surrey Sukkah Hops in a Limo!
A large group of lucky Jewish children in the Surrey/White Rock area were delighted to discover that their annual “Sukkah-Hop” would take place in a limousine this year!
The children gathered at the Centre for Judaism on Sunday, September 26, the first of the intermediary days of Sukkot. Located in Surrey and directed by Rabbi and Mrs. Falik Schtroks, the Centre for Judaism served as the starting point for the afternoon’s festivities, beginning with a grand barbeque lunch and the shaking of the Lulav and Etrog, enjoyed by all inside the Centre’s tremendous Sukkah.
Shouts of delight were heard when the gigantic, sleek, limo-bus pulled up! Some 25 children eagerly hopped inside, accompanied by their parents and chaperones and prepared to travel to a number of neighbourhood sukkahs in style. They soaked up the luxurious surroundings, comfortable seats and great Jewish music and set out on what was a most enjoyable afternoon! Led by Chana Schtroks, Yosef Schtroks and Cordelia Sank, the limo ride was one filled with song and good cheer and included a variety of Sukkot games and contests.
The limo-bus chauffeured the excited Sukkah hoppers to three of the neighborhood’s sukkahs, each one serving as a station for a unique Sukkot activity or game, as well as a place to enjoy some delicious Sukkot treats. Many thanks are extended to the Shurack/Grempel, Gabay and Nudel families for being such wonderful hosts.
At each stop the children got to admire the assortment of decorations and designs which distinguished one Sukkah from the next. As well, the children got to enjoy some yummy snacks in each Sukkah, enabling them to say the special “Leisheiv Basuka” blessing once more.
They then had a blast, participating in the well planned fun activities at each stop, ranging from scavenger hunts to making their own sugary Sukkah’s out of crackers, marshmallow fluff, and other stuff, plus many other exciting activities.
After four hours of jam-packed Jewish fun, all the parents joined their children, at the Nudel’s house, while the reJewvenated children gave a spirited rendition of the day’s theme song: “You put your lulav in… Shake it all about… Chag Sameach!”
The children left off with an incredible feeling of Jewish pride and excitement about their heritage, and as one “Sukkah hopper” named Gil, put it: “Sukka hopping in a limo makes me feel that I’m a celebrity when I do Jewish things!”
