NEW YORK — The Chabad House Serving NYU, a Jewish organization on campus, is expanding. The group recently purchased two floors at 52 E. Fourth Street.

“We are honored and proud to work closely with the Bronfman Center and we look forward to this move bringing growth to our entire community,” said Rabbi Dov Yonah Korn, director of The Chabad House Serving NYU.

Chabad House Serving NYU would not disclose who funded the purchase.

The building, located on Bowery and Fourth Street, was designed by famed architect Robert Scarano and offers views of the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building and the Financial District.

“It’s a hip new building and has the kind of open, loft-like space that we were seeking,” Korn said.

David Rittberg, executive director of the Bronfman Center, is excited about the expansion.

“The Bronfman Center at NYU is thrilled for the Chabad and the Korn family,” he said. “This expansion speaks to the success of the Jewish community at NYU and the hard work of the Korns.”

CAS senior Maytal Ross hopes the new area will alleviate the space constraints from the current 27 Washington Square North location.

“I have personally seen the group of students who come to Chabad grow exponentially and beyond the current space we occupy,” he said. “The expansion is entirely necessary to maintain the current group and for continued growth in the future.”

Stern senior Micah Timen looks forward to the future of the Chabad House at the new location.

“I am excited for the next generation of NYU Jews who can use the space,” he said. “I think this will help secure NYU as one of the leading schools for Jews to attend. Rabbi Korn, along with the Bronfman Center, have successfully created a utopia, of sorts, for Jewish students.”
