First Year of One Week Solano CGI

VACAVILLE, CA [CHI] — Twenty bright green tie-dyed t-shirts, proudly displaying the Camp Gan Israel logo, were spotted all over Solano County and beyond, last week.

From the Walter V. Graham Acquatic Center, to the Rocket Boat in Pier 39, San Francisco; North Orchard Park to Hagafen Kosher Winery in Napa; Stars Recreation and Bowling Center to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom; Jelly Belly to Capay Organic Farm, Seven Eleven to the Vintage Shopping Center… wherever we went we were greeted by smiles, cheers and even, “I’ve attended Camp Gan Israel too!”

But that’s only half the story! Campers immensely enjoyed the company of many new friends including their spirited counselors flown in from NY, learned a record breaking amount of fun cheers and Jewish songs, and had a blast jumping in a bounce house, “hunting” and tie-dying caps.

In line with the theme of the camp, “Kids Can Create Shabbos”, campers decorated aprons, raced to make matzoh balls, braided Challah, decorated candle centerpieces, and folded napkins. Teens “modeled” after our matriarch Sarah kneading Challah dough and cooking up a gourmet Shabbos meal to feed over 30 guests at the Friday Evening Shabbat Dinner: staff, campers, parents and siblings included.
