WEST BLOOMFIELD, MI [CHI] — Friendship Circle is expanding its LifeTown center. They are constructing a 5,800 square foot sports gymnasium.

Last June, I was approached by generous members of the community, Philip & Estelle Elkus. They wanted to learn more about Friendship Circle, our current services and our future needs. The Elkus’s goal was to make a major contribution that would have a significant, lasting impact in the lives of people with special needs in memory of their sister Florene Elkus and brother Edward Elkus.
After lengthy discussions, we all agreed the most fitting idea that met both their goal and our future needs would be to build a state of the art, 5,800 square foot sports gymnasium connected to Ferber Kaufman LifeTown, located on the Meer Family Friendship Center.
After months of planning and going through the township approval process, we are happy to report that construction will begin soon on the new gym. We hope to have the gym completed before our new season of programs begins in the fall. We are excited that our 2010’-11’ programs will include a full variety of new activities that will be housed in our brand new gymnasium.
The gym was designed by Neumann/Smith Architects and will be built by Sachse construction.
