Sefer Torah that Survived the Holocaust getting Rededicated

On Sunday, January 10th an historical event will be taking place at the Garfield Theater at the Jewish Community Center in La Jolla, California. A 200 year-old Torah scroll, which miraculously survived the Holocaust in Carlsbad, Czechoslovakia, buried under a basement, will be dedicated by its new owner, Chabad at La Costa, located in Carlsbad, California.

“The dedication of a new Torah scroll is considered a very joyous event in the Jewish religion, but when the Torah scroll has miraculously survived the inferno of the Holocaust extra joy is added to the occasion,” explained Rabbi Yeruchem Eilfort, Director of Chabad at La Costa. In honor of this historic occasion Chabad at La Costa is hosting a concert featuring world-famous Cantorial Master Joseph Malovany, who has appeared on numerous television specials and is considered one of the top Cantors in the world. Also appearing will be San Diego Jewish Men’s Choir.

Following the concert there will be a celebratory banquet where members and friends of the synagogue will not only rejoice in the newly acquired Torah, but will also celebrate the “burning of the mortgage” and unveil plans for a new complex of buildings planned for the Jewish community in Carlsbad.

Rabbi Eilfort emphasized that the general community is welcome to participate in this historic event by contacting the JCC Box Office at (858) 362-1348. More information is also available at www.ChabadatLaCosta.com.
