Colorado Shluchim Mark 1st anniversary of Mumbai Terrorist Attack with Musical Tribute at Denver Art Museum
Denver, CO [CHI] — This past Thursday Nov 19th over one hundred people came together from the metro Denver area and beyond for a tribute concert in memory of Rabbi Gavriel and Rivkah Holtzberg who were murdered by terrorists a year ago at their Chabad House in Mumbai, India.
The concert was held at the Denver Museum of Art and was a joint project of the Chabad Houses of Colorado.
Opening remarks were given by community member Aviva Kashuk, Melanie Perlman, executive director of The Cell and Shluchim Rabbis Yisroel Engel and Benjy Brackman.
A JEM video presentation in tribute to the Holtzbergs and accompanied by excerpts of the Rebbe was shown.
Headlining was up-and-coming artist Moshe Hecht from Brooklyn, NY who is a few months away from the debut of his first album produced by Grammy winner Steven Ray Allen.
Hecht’s eclectic blend of folk, reggae and spiritual tales inspired the audience. The highlight of the evening was the song “Lamp Lighters” dedicated to the Holtzbergs. The song compares a Chasid to a lamp lighter who is ready to go the most remote place to bring light.
Moshe was accompanied by Schneur Menaker on the keyboard and local musicians Janelle Hu on the violin and Laura Schulkind on the flute.
Before the concert began guests enjoyed a dessert reception and tour of The Cell (The Center for Empowered Living & Learning) an experiential and interactive state-of-the-art multimedia exhibit educate visitors to the threat of terrorism.
