An email signed by ten Shluchim was sent out recently calling on Shluchim to dedicate one Hakafah on Simchas Torah in memory of the slain Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl HY”D, whose birthday falls out on Simchas Torah.
Pearl died ‘Al Kiddush Hashem’ when he was kidnapped, tortured and murdered by al Qaeda terrorists in Pakistan. He sent shockwaves throughout the world when he declared in his final words that “my father is a Jew, my mother is a Jew and I am a Jew.”
Tuesday, October 6, 2009Dr. Judea Pearl, father of slain Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl HY”D, has approached us with a unique request.
Daniel’s birthday is on Simchas Torah and he is asking that we dedicate one Hakafah to his memory. We all remember how Daniel was Mekadesh Shem Shamayim b’Rabim with the words “my father is a Jew, my mother is a Jew and I am a Jew”. As such, he has become a symbol of Jewish pride and the indomitable power of the Jewish soul. His final words before he was R“L murdered were a tangible demonstration of ”Koineh Olomo b’Sha’ah Achas.” This dedication is sure to be well received and will hopefully inspire your community to a heightened level of Jewish pride and identification.
Dr. Pearl has created a special section on his foundation website where he will list all particpating Chabad Houses. There are no financial commitments or other strings attached.
