FLINT, MI [CHI] — Members of the Jewish community in Flint, Michigan celebrated the completion and dedication of a new Sefer Torah. The Torah was written in memory of Mrs. Freida Bluma Polter OBM, and was sponsored by the community members.

FLINT, MI [CHI] — Members of the Jewish community in Flint, Michigan celebrated the completion and dedication of a new Sefer Torah. The Torah was written in memory of Mrs. Freida Bluma Polter OBM, and was sponsored by the community members.
The celebration took place on Sunday, September 13, 24 Elul, Year of Hakhel, at Chabad House of Eastern Michigan, directed by Rabbi Yisroel and his wife Shainie Weingarten.
Participants had the opportunity to fill in a letter of the Torah, alongside the expert Scribe, Rabbi Levi Kagan. The final letter was written in by Rabbi Yisroel Polter.
The keynote speaker was Rabbi Yossi Shemtov, Shliach to Toledo, Ohio who warmly addressed the crowd by awakening within them their individual connection to the Torah specifically in preparation for the New Year.
Amongst the many participants was Rabbi Berl Shemtov, Regional Director of Lubavitch in Michigan, Mr. David Leyton, Prosecuting attorney of Genesee County and other Shluchim and Anash from all over the State.

A beautiful simcha. One thing I can’t understand: how do Shluchim have a mantle on a Sefer Torah with round luchois? I have seen too many lately, mainly on older sifrei Torah. They were suppossed to have been changed years back!
