Hunter College Student Names Gimmel Tammuz Baby at 770

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — Velvel (Vladimir) Mikhlin – Hunter College Class of 2000 names his first baby under the supervision of his Chabad Lubavitch Shliach Rabbi Boruch Sholom Jacobson at the Lubavitch World Headquarters, 770 Eastern Pkwy.

As Rabbi Boruch Sholom Jacobson and his wife Leah, the Shluchim of the Lubavitcher Rebbe to Hunter College, were standing in line to enter the ohel of the Rebbe and Previous Rebbe, on Gimmel Tammuz, one of their first students from the Hunter College Class of 2000, became a father for the first time.

Nurse student and healthcare administrator Vladimir (Velvel) Mikhlin called his teacher and excitedly informed Rabbi Jacobson that he and his wife Naomi became the proud parents of a baby girl. “Rabbi Jacobson, I would like to attend synagogue with you to pray for our child,” Mikhlin said.

Mazal Tov! Rabbi Jacobson said, thinking how proud he was to have become a spiritual grandparent to a new Jewish child, nine years after teaching and inspiring Mikhlin and his fellow students at a weekly Torah class to graduate, choose a career and build a proud Jewish home.

At the baby naming ceremony on the tenth of Tammuz, at 770, the world Headquarters of the Chabad Lubavitch movement in Brooklyn, New York, Vladimir put on tallis, tefillin and was called up to the Torah for the first time, celebrating his bar-mitzvah together with the naming of his daughter.

The Jacobson family became official Shluchim of the Rebbe on Gimmel Tammuz, 5759 (1999), exactly ten years ago. As they celebrate their tenth anniversary as Shluchim, they look back at the various programs and activities that they organized to help the students at Hunter College learn about the beauty of Yiddishkeit and plan the future with the help of the growing number of students who attend their classes, Shabbat and holiday meals, shabatons and trips.
