Lag BaOmer in Kharkov Ukraine

The main streets of Kharkov were closed at 10am in the morning in preparation for a special Lag Baomer parade celebrating the year of Hakhel . The police filled the streets and stopped trolleybuses and traffic on the main streets Pushkinskaya and Sumskaya as the Jewish community of Kharkov marched with pride passed the mayor’s office and the locals smiled and watched the crowd.

The program began with a special Kinnus for children in the shule run by Rabbi Levi Raices. After the 12 Pesukim were said – the children enjoyed a special program with a magician.

The parade began with the philharmonic orchestra playing Jewish songs and a float made by the shluchim-bochrim of the Yeshiva . It was an amazing kiddush hashem as the community – from infants to elderly grandparents , school children and students – marched through the streets with signs in Russian about candlelighting, Jewish education and Tefillin.

A special program followed in the park with a bonfire , archery and races.

Another great success by the shluchim in Kharkov. Good job guys, the long hours, work and bbq’s (and putcho) finally paid of. Major success. Hope you all are well appreciated there. Boys looking all spiffy, that’s the way. Can’t wait to see you all back here in one piece with a t-shirt saying “I survived Ukraine”.
