Two days before Passover, a group of eight students from the ‘Tomchei Tmimim Ohr Avner’ Yeshiva in Kfar Citrin arrived in Tashkent. They would subsequently travel even further in order to visit various Jewish communities and led Seders across the country.
This year, 4000 kilograms of matzah were distributed to more than 3,500 Jews in Uzbekistan, with deliveries reaching Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Fergana, Andijan, Kokand, Margilan, Namangan, Chirchiq, Gazelkant, Angren, Achangren, Yangio’l, Yangiyer, Jizzax, Navoiy and Qarshi.
The great success of these Passover celebrations in Uzbekistan is largely due to support received from the Ohr Avner Foundation, the Congress of Bukharian Jews, Mr. Ben Binyaminov– President of the Bukharian Jewish Communities in the CIS, as well as Mr. Yaakov Rivilsky, Mr. Velvel Shapiro, and Mr. Hillel Neiman, who is currently serving as the Israeli Ambassador to Uzbekistan.
The Jewish community of Tashkent is a proud member of the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS and Baltic Countries.
