Chabad ‘Time Capsule’ to be buried at Mineola
MINEOLA, NY [CHI] — Chabad of Mineola launches the Birkat HaChamah Time Capsule to document today’s Jewish life.
On April 8, 2009, the eve of Passover, Jews around the world will rise early, gaze at the sun and recite the least-frequently-recited blessing in Judaism: Birkat HaChamah, the blessing on the sun.
In honor of this once in 28 years event, Rabbi Anchelle Perl, director of the Chabad of Mineola, will bury a special Time Capsule at the cornerstone of the Synagogue, scheduled immediately following the Birkat HaChamah- Blessing on the Sun- Assembly. The event starts at 7:45am. The Shul is located at 261 Willis Ave, Mineola NY.
The time capsule will document for posterity the individual thoughts, perspectives, comments, personal histories, on how we think 2009 will be remembered in Jewish history. The time capsule will be opened in 28 years on April 8, 2037 at the next scheduled Birkat HaChamah.
Think of a time capsule as a message in a bottle sent forward in time to a future self — messages in the capsule tell our “tomorrow self” what we think is important today.
“We invite everyone,” says Rabbi Perl, “to also send a letter, a snapshot, or even a DVD or memory stick of a worthy message to the world to be read in 28 years from now. It might include a family history, the hopes and dreams from grandchildren or a particular challenge to one’s family or community.”
All those attending the April 8 event will sign a special document to be included in this historic Jewish Time Capsule. Mail in deadline April 5.

you always have a new and innovated ideas to get the word out about yiddishkeit
keep up the great work Rabbi Perl
like it!
that is such a cute idea!
computer buried alive
that computer would be buried for so long, it would convince itself it’s dead as well – which will cause it to die.
When something is out of commision for so long, it just goes bad.
But I love the time capsule idea, and it would be cute to see it in video then. But it would be sad to save everything on it, and then not have a way to reopen it bec. the world has changed that much (which is when you really want to see it!)
