“In addition to creating jobs, this service links two global leaders in the innovation-based economy with daily flights from Massachusetts to California,” said Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick. “Given the challenging national economy, this is an important endorsement of the economic power of our state. The service will give business and leisure travelers more low-fare options and stimulate tourism as well as business traffic.”
As part of its launch, the airline known for shaking up the category asked Bostonians to nominate their top examples of non-profits that are re-thinking the status quo and changing their own communities for the better, via a grassroots competition at: www.revolutiontakesflight.com. The site received over 500,000 visitors in just three weeks, and at the airline’s evening launch event tonight at the historic Liberty Hotel (former site of the Charles Street Jail), Branson will award $25,000 to the Friendship Circle of Sharon the non-profit organization receiving the most votes.
“We are delighted to have been chosen as the recipient of this prize and are proud to be part of the revolution by providing children with special needs and their families with special friends. Thank you Virgin America for joining our special circle of friends,” comments Rabbi Chaim Wolosow, executive director of the Friendship Circle of Sharon. “We wish Virgin America much success in their revolution and endeavors and we thank all the volunteers of the Friendship Circle of Sharon who invested so countless hours of work to help us win this award.”
