Chabad working with Emergency services for Bushfire Relief
MELBOURNE, Australia [CHI] — Chabad is at the forefront of the Jewish community’s efforts to assist the victims of the devastating bushfires in the state of Victoria. These are the worst bushfires in Australian history, claiming more than 200 lives.
Some of the areas effected are well known to Melbourne’s vibrant Jewish community, particularly the town of Marysville which hosted Pesach vacations.
Hundreds of portions of food parcels and biscuits have been sent to emergency services personnel in the front line. They were prepared in Our Big Kitchen, at the Yeshiva Centre in Bondi, Chabad NSW Headquarters. (See photo).
The director of Our Big Kitchen, Rabbi Dovid Slavin, is coordinating these efforts with the Emergency Services. Rabbi Slavin is the Chaplain for the NSW Ambulance Service. Another Yeshiva Rabbi, Elimelech Levy, is the Chaplain to the State Emergency Services.
Rabbi Pinchus Feldman OAM, Head Rabbi of Chabad NSW and Dean and Spiritual Leader of the Yeshiva Centre said “This is the essence of our mission: to help all in need , specifically in times of crisis, irrespective of race, colour and creed.
Our Big Kitchen also recently helped in the aftermath of the Mumbai Massacre by sending food packages.
A major community cook-in to assist with the bushfire response is planned for Thursday 19 February at Our Big Kitchen.
For more information please contact Rabbi Slavin on 0425 231 903

“Chabad is at the forefront”? I don’t think so.
While I am sure that the Yeshivah in Sydney is doing its bit to collect food etc for the hundreds of homeless victims but numerous Melbourne organisations have been in action since day one. Hatzolah and Jewish Aid Australia – both wonderful organisations – are working tirelessly to raise money and collect goods.
It is sad that the Sydney Yeshivah has to use this tragedy as a publicity stunt.

Sydney yeshiva center really rocks the house keep up the good work!!!!!!!!
Our Big Kitchen EXPOSED
The Truth in Sydney
Our Big Kitchen is a “day camp activity centre” for the Hierarchy of the NSW Ambulance Service as well as the Australian Army.
“Our” Big Kitchen is a one man show. Located on the campus of The Yeshiva Centre – CHABAD (SYDNEY) NSW HEADQUARTERS,
Our Big Kitchen has hosted an Xmas Party for the Hierarchy of the Ambulance Sevice NSW, which none of the Jewish Ambulance Officers were invited to neither was informed, purposely SELECTIVE.
Which is surpising seeing that the party was on the premises of CHABAD (SYDNEY) NSW HEADQUARTERS. Wonderful – Chabad hosting Xmas Parties to goyim on their premises. L’Chaim!
The only people Our Big Kitchen feeds is the Hierarchy of the Ambulance Service NSW. The Kitchen has hosted many a “party” for the Ambos. Truth be told there is NO “Major” “Community” cook ins. Noone willingly volunteers.
Why aren’t the Syd Hatzolah members (all Yeshivah members) volunteering their time in the kitchen???
The general frum community is NOT involved whatsoever, neither welcome.
They are all about the DOLLARS, media/publicity opportunities with the Goyim and “chanfening” to the Dignitaries. “Charity begins at home”!
The kitchen is NOT an “open kitchen” where the homeless or hungry Yidden can walk off the street for a meal. The kitchen does NOT cater to their own fellow Yidden (the ones in need of a meal).
Smiles & warm handshakes are reserved for Goyish Dignitaries & people in position of power not the Mother whos husband has no Parnossah and cannot put food on her table for her 8 or so kids!
Remember the next time you receive your *cookies* from the “BIG” Kitchen it is baked courtesy of the Australian Army (who are duped) as well as an old Russian Bobbe and a Phillipina housemaid.
There is NO mass frozen back up MEALS to distribute immediately if needed in time of a National Emergency or Disaster. Cookies don’t cost much to make. Making meals are considerable dollarwise. The money donated and Govt grant given should be put to the use it was given for. There’s plenty in the “kitty”. There is no excuse that mansize MEALS cannot be cooked and distributed (for disasters, droughts etc).
*Note I say Hierarchy b/c it is ONLY the people who hold HIGH positions in the Ambulance Service that are ever invited to these “parties”. The proof is there the only pictures of the Big Kitchen on their site, in the papers and Yeshiva calendar is that of Slavin posing with members of the Ambo service as well as a pic of Segelman with the Australian Army rolling out cookie dough. Please Slavin the next batch of pictures to roll out I’d like to see pics of communities affected by disaster holding PLATES with proper MEALS in them cooked and distributed by OUR BIG KITCHEN. Get your hands dirty and get out in the field!
To point out Dovid Slavin is Chaplain of the Ambulance Service NSW, Yossi Segelman is Chaplain of the Australian Army & Elimelech Levy (R’ Feldmans son in law)is Chaplain of the SES (State Emergency Service) which is a joke in itself bc SES is voluntarily run. All of whom (Slavin, Segelman, Levy) are Lubavitchers and Kehilla members of Yeshivah Sydney.
Also note to be a Chaplain is a “Kovod” thing. They do NOT hold positions of authority in the assosication they are appointed to. It is more a “privilege” to be a part of. Don’t abuse that!
Fellow Jew
I believe that the entire Australian Jewish Communities efforts should have been mentioned in the article at some point. After all we are all Jews helping out another fellow man in need. Well Done to the entire Australian Jewish Communities Relief Efforts. It sounds like you are all doing an outstanding job.
disappointed
Entirely inappropriate for Sydney Chabad to be patting themselves on the back and publicizing it in a time of utter tragedy. Why not report on the ex Beth Rivkah collegian who lost her home and wordly possessions and what could be done to help her?! The Australian press is galvanised into doing what it can to help those in need and the only ones praising themselves is Sydney Chabad. What a shame.
