GOSHEN, NY [CHI] — Using socks, googly eyes, felt and other creative materials, twenty-five children recently gathered to make puppets to be sent to victims of terror in Israel. Chabad’s Youth Zone Club, “Kids In Action For Israel”, carried out this unique project. The club, geared for children ages 5-12, meets monthly to do a good deed for others, and simultaneously has a special activity for their own enjoyment. This year, the children are gearing the charity projects to various causes in Israel. The hand-made puppets will be sent to a Chabad representative in Israel who will deliver the gifts to children who have been seriously injured through terrorist acts.

All who attended this event also enjoyed refreshments, creative Jewish games and bowling at Colonial Lanes, in Chester. “Kids In Action” was founded this year by Chana Burston, who co-directs Chabad with her husband, Rabbi Pesach. “ This program is great because it allows the children to use their creativity for a special cause. Having a special trip or party adds excitement to the program and is an incentive – but I believe the kids are mainly attending because they want to share and give.”

Chabad Youth leaders, Dassie Levelov and Shayna Witkes, organized the program and look forward to the next event. “In February we will be having a ‘Funky Youth Zone Costume Party’ and making Purim packages for soldiers in Israel,” says Shayna.
